\"\"WITH OUR SPORT BEING as marks-oriented as it is \u2014 particularly marks of the all-time-best variety \u2014 it would be only logical to wonder what World Records we might see at the World Championships in July.<\/p>\n

But that sets an awfully high bar. So instead, let\u2019s drop back a notch and examine the possibilities for Meet Records in Eugene. That\u2019s a stiff collection of marks in and of itself and you may well be surprised to see just how old some of them are.<\/p>\n

The distribution of MRs by year, which finds all but 2 of the 17 hosts still claiming at least 1: 6\u2014Doha \u201919; 5\u2014Rome \u201987, Helsinki \u201905 & Berlin \u201909; 4\u2014Stuttgart \u201993 & Beijing \u201915; 3\u2014Seville \u201999, Paris \u201903 & Daegu \u201911; 2\u2014Helsinki \u201983, Gothenburg \u201995 & Edmonton \u201901; 1\u2014Tokyo \u201991, Osaka \u201907 & Moscow \u201913; 0\u2014Athens \u201997 & London \u201917.<\/p>\n

Which MR is most likely to fall? The same one that\u2019s the most likely WR, and that comes with Sydney McLaughlin\u2019s being chased by Dalilah Muhammad and Femke Bol (not necessarily in that order) in the women\u2019s 400H, where 52.16 should be easy-peasy.<\/p>\n

Next up: men\u2019s shot, where Ryan Crouser is a threat for a 77-footer every time he steps in the ring, being far beyond the existing 75-2 (22.91) with unimaginable consistency.<\/p>\n

With the Jamaican women in fine form hard not to imagine at least one of them breaking 10.70 in the 100. And at twice the distance add Americans Gabby Thomas & Abby Steiner and 21.63 seems fated to bite the dust.<\/p>\n

Least likely to fall? On the men\u2019s side, Bolt\u2019s 9.58 & 19.19 and Powell\u2019s 29-4\u00bd (8.95). On the women\u2019s, JJK\u2019s 7128, the 69-8\u00bc (21.24) shared by Lisovskaya & Adams and the 6-10\u00bc (2.09) by Kostadinova.<\/p>\n
